Vision loss is an under-reported problem following a stroke.
Vision Loss after a stroke is seldom brought to the attention of the patient's optometrist or care giver. Almost three quarters of stroke survivors will have some form of vision loss or problems.
Impaired central vision, eye movement abnormalities, visual field loss (distorted periphery), visual inattention and visual perception disorders are just a few common complaints.
As a guest speaker at the Kelowna Municipal Pension Retirees Association Meeting in September, Dr. Percival was given the opportunity to discuss the implications of a Stroke in relation to vision loss. It was of great interest to the retirees.
If you or a loved one has suffered a stroke, be aware of the potential visual complications. They should be reported and can be managed with patience and experience.
